HORNO DE TOSTACIÓN
At this point we find two blast furnaces very deteriorated. Minerals like blende were put into them and when they were toasted they became enriched in their metal levels. As a result, a decrease in the price of melting was achieved.
In our final stretch, at about 350 metres away from the furnaces we will find a spring of water strongly mineralized.
Mining works go down until they find the level of the underground water very often and the water flows through the galleries of the mine. This emergence is quite flashy because of its contrast with the dryness of the soil and because of the ochre and reddish tones that colour the rocks.
A few metres forward to the left, there is a pond with mud from the mines that is still waiting to be removed.
The 33 road will get to the end immediately meeting with the intersection of the Portman paved road, La Esperanza N-345.
As a matter of fact, our route does not end there and we invite you to go on walking a bit more until you get to the village of Portman so you can visit it and enjoy the Old Charity Hospital. To find it you have to turn to the left when you arrive to the traffic light, then you have to turn to the right four streets forward on Campoamor street and then you have to turn to the left three streets forward on Caridad street which goes up to the rosy coloured building that is the last point of our route.
On that road we can find “La casa del Tío Lobo”, a magnificent building representing the peak of mining that waits there to be restored.
En este punto hallamos dos hornos de tostación muy deteriorados, en ellos se introducían minerales como la blenda, que al sufrir el proceso de tostación experimentaban un enriquecimiento de sus nivele metálicos. Al mismo tiempo se conseguía un abaratamiento de los costes de fundición.
En nuestro tramo último a unos 350 metros de los hornos nos encontraremos con una sugerencia de aguas fuertemente mineralizadas.
En muchos casos las labores mineras penetran bajo el nivel hasta llegar al agua. El agua mana a través de las galerías de una mina. Esta surgencia resulta muy llamativa por su contraste con la aridez del terreno y por sus tonos ocres y rojizos que colorean la roca.
Unos metros más adelante, a la izquierda, una balsa de lodos procedentes de las minas que aún espera ser eliminada. Inmediatamente el camino del 33 llegara a su final coincidiendo con la intersección de la carretera asfaltada Portmán – La esperanza N-345.
Pero nuestra ruta no acaba ahí, sino que les invitamos a seguir caminando un poco más hasta adentrarse en el pueblo de Portman y disfrutar como final de nuestro recorrido del Antiguo Hospital de Caridad, para lo cualtras llegar al semáforo giraremos a la izquierda y después la cuarta calle a la derecha (Calle Campoamor) para girar de nuevo pasadas tres calles a la izquierda en la calle La Caridad que nos conducirá ascendiendo hasta el edificio de color rosáceo que constituye el último punto de nuestro recorrido.
En ese camino nos encontraremos con “La Casa del Tío Lobo”, grandiosa construcción representativa del auge de la minería que espera ser rehabilitada.
